CHE 338 Metals in Medicine

A study of the role of metals in disease and modern medicine from chemical, biological, environmental and historical perspectives. Topics include the role of biological metals in disease, the environmental effects of metallic materials on the progression of disease, the role of metals and metallic compounds in disease pathology, the use of metals and metallic compounds as chemotherapeutic treatments and the role of metals in nuclear medicine. Case studies are utilized to look at environmental and biological effects and the historical ramifications of metals on disease.
