PHI 278 Philosophies and Theologies of Resistance in El Salvador

A study of philosophies and theologies of resistance with emphasis on the integrative analysis upon which their method depends. The course will examine the socio-economic and historical situation out of which Salvadoran resistance movements arose; the social analysis they employ; and the philosophical and theological underpinnings that grounded them, ideologically and institutionally. The course intentionally engages with the concrete lived experience of activists who found themselves resisting one of the twentieth century’s most entrenched dictatorships and their experiences in the aftermath of the civil war.
