MUS 216 Songwriting from Theory to Practice
This course will guide students through the process of creating original musical pieces. Neither classical training nor the ability to read music are necessary. Students first study prominent approaches to the songwriting craft (Rodgers & Hammerstein, Bob Dylan, and Lennon/McCartney) and emulate aspects of those songwriters by creating one piece in each style. In following, students embark on a final project of writing a song in the style of their choosing, collaborating with fellow students and working closely with the instructor in the process.
