MUS 233 Contemporary Improvisation

This class will explore the characteristics of great improvisation in a variety of musical styles, including, rock, blues, jazz, country, folk, and some world music traditions. Using their instrument or voice, students will explore a variety of topics including: how to create a great solo, accompanying soloists, learning a variety of scales and modes, playing by ear, reading chord symbols, and others. Some experience with an instrument or voice is required. An ability to read music is not necessary.
