POL 351 Gender and Development

An examination of the impact of gender on the process of economic and political development with a focus on Africa, Latin America, and South Asia. Course themes include: the varying effects of development projects on men's and women's quality of life, analysis of people's productive and reproductive roles, how work is conceptualized through a gender lens, and how the process of empowerment is conditioned and structured by gender considerations. Includes a study of specific ways in which men and women in the Global South have organized to improve their condition locally and globally.
