Student Government President Letter
Greetings Centre community:
Welcome to the 2019-2020 academic year at Centre College. I am excited to serve you during this part of your Centre career. We are all starting new journeys this year, journeys which will be part of the first chapter in Centre’s third century.
As Kentucky’s and one of the nation’s most prestigious liberal arts and sciences institutions, Centre College is a place of opportunity and tradition. I encourage you to become an active and balanced member of our community, contributing your perspective and opinions. We continue to grow and change as an institution, forming new traditions to be proud of along the way. Think about the type of place you want Centre to be and work toward that vision. This will require you to celebrate and challenge our community along the way.
As you grow and mature at Centre, opportunities will continue to open for you. Take advantage of each chance you get to challenge yourself to achieve positive growth. Centre’s faculty and staff are nationally recognized because of their dedication to the success of students. They are a part of your Centre family.
The Student Government Association (SGA) is an important part of your time at Centre, representing your voice within the Centre community and beyond. SGA’s mission is to improve Centre along the lines determined by the students. Therefore, it is critical you participate in SGA elections and forums along with generally engaging with SGA. There are new ways to share your perspectives and opinions with SGA via our website and social media accounts. Use these opportunities to participate and influence the direction of Centre.
As you begin this year, consider the type of legacy you want to establish. How you treat others, our community, is the most potent representation of who you are. Honesty, respect, and integrity will take you far at Centre and in the world at large. Just as important is the need to enjoy your time at Centre. Cherish each moment and celebrate successes with each other. There is so much to celebrate at Centre. I challenge you to embrace these ideals as you go about your Centre journey.
Best wishes for the new academic year!
Henry W. Snyder
