Student Government President Letter
Greetings Centre College community,
Allow me to welcome you to the 2022-23 academic year! Like many of you, I am excited about what this year will bring to our campus, and I can not wait to reconnect and meet you all.
The Centre community is full of diverse, passionate people, each representing unique perspectives and life experiences. From classrooms to the Cowan Dining Hall to convocations, you will find yourself interacting with people and ideas that will "illuminate" your mind and challenge you to feel the world around you in different ways. that, for me, has and will always be a part of the "Centre promise" - to prepare today's leaders for tomorrow's challenges.
Within the past couple of years, we have collectively witnessed world-altering events, many of which have affected us deeply. However, I can personally say that my college community not only helped me to push through but to see beyond those difficult moments. As my community has been there for me, rest in the fact that your community, your mainstay here at Centre, will do the same for you.
This year poses a new set of challenges, as well as opportunities for growth. Many of you will be coming to Centre as first-year students - embarking on your college journey and stepping out on your own for the first time. Others will be returning to classes, whether on-campus or abroad, continuing to craft their own college experience. At the heart of it all, we are hoping for a successful year, but we must remember that we share in the collective responsibility to treat one another with kindness and respect to see that through.
As President of the Centre College Student Government Association (SGA), honoring our community with those values is a firm conviction for me. Students hold a special power to "reimagine Centre" through their advocacy and community-building. SGA stands as a tool to support students along the way as they make our campus better, safer, and more inclusive. We are YOUR SGA, and we exist for and because of you.
Throughout the year, please do not underestimate the power of a simple "hello." As you walk by other students, faculty, staff, or even visitors, letting others k now that you see them can positively influence someone's day (maybe even their week!).
In the meantime, please do not hesitate to call on me or your SGA representatives and executive officers for any help or guidance you may need.
Again, welcome,
Imani Smith, Centre SGA President
