ARS 210 Introduction to Oil Painting

Students enrolling in this course should be proficient in drawing. The course gives primary emphasis to oil painting. Observational skills will be developed by working directly from life throughout the term; there will be no work from photographic sources. The subject matter throughout the course will be limited to the genre of still life in order to allow students to develop craftsmanship and design skills.  The student will learn to render a three-dimensional object convincingly on a flat surface and to combine colors to create a sense of light.
