IST 385 Global Petro-Cultures

This course will examine the role of petroleum on world history and its socio-political and economic dimensions on human societies, from its discovery, extraction, and refinement to its impact on economics, politics, and the environment. Through a variety of different readings, films, and activities, students will explore the complex relationships between petroleum, politics, economics, society, and culture, and will encourage critical thinking about the role of petroleum in shaping the past, present, and future of human societies.
