Health Services for Students

Student Health Services staff provide medical services on campus where students can be evaluated for minor illness or injury and receive disease prevention services.  The office is located at 309 College Street in the Parsons Center for Student Health and Counseling.  Full time staff include an administrative assistant, a physician assistant, a licensed practical nurse, and the director who is a registered nurse.  Two physicians, specializing in family medicine, are contracted to provide services for an hour on 4 mornings/week and are available to staff throughout the day.

Appointments can be made by calling 859-238-5530. Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

In the event of a medical emergency, call 911 or the Department of Public Safety at 859-236-4357. Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center is located two blocks from campus. If a student is admitted to the hospital, please notify the Student Health office at 859-238-5530.  Centre College reserves the right to notify a student’s parent or guardian in the event of a medical emergency or imminent danger.

Student health clinical staff will administer allergy injections, immunizations, and other injections as ordered by a healthcare provider. Several point-of-care diagnostic tests are available like strep, mono, flu, COVID-19, urinalysis, glucose, hemoglobin, and pregnancy tests. Sometimes specimens are sent to a lab for further diagnostic testing.  A student may be given an order for outpatient testing and will be directed to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Centre, two blocks from campus.

Medications, tests, and vaccines are offered at or near cost.  Students may pay at the time of their visit or have the charges applied to their student account. There is not an “office visit” charge whether they see a nurse, PA, or MD.

There is a self-help shelf in the lobby where students can pick up free samples of OTC medications or buy OTC medications without being evaluated by a healthcare provider.  Free condoms (internal and external), dental dams, and lubricant can be picked up from the self-help area.

The student health office does not file insurance.  It is important that insurance information is kept on file in case diagnostic tests are ordered or the student is sent to the ER.  All students are required to keep their health insurance information updated by uploading a copy of their insurance card to the patient portal. https://centre.studenthealthportal.com
