ARS 361 Moving Image-III

This is an advanced course in the art, history, and theory of time-based practices. The aim of this class is the development of moving image works that demonstrate technical, aesthetic, and conceptual rigor individually and collaboratively. Students will deepen their understanding of the work of contemporary moving image artists and movements that have roots in performance art, installation, cinematography, narrative film, animation, and video art through readings, research, and discussion so as to contextualize their own artistic interests. Students will also be required to concisely critique their own and others’ work technically, aesthetically, and conceptually. Research of greater societal concerns will be encouraged to further inform and contextualize their practice.
