This course explores in greater depth the architectural, visual, linguistic, literary, musical, and cinematic arts of Asia. Concentration is placed on major East and South Asian traditions (China, Japan, India, Vietnam, and Thailand), while also spending time on other minor traditions and the works of the Asian diaspora (Burma, global Asia). Readings from a number of historical periods across an array of genres explore issues of race, gender, class, culture, religion, philosophy, and ethnicity.
