HMS 310 Health & Medical Studies Seminar

The seminar course will survey current healthcare systems domestically and globally, discuss how they function and examine how these systems marginalize identity groups in the across the healthcare fields. The course will continually engage students with the diverse experiences of people from a variety of identity groups. Students will also have to engage with their own social position within the healthcare system and consider how it influences their opinions and bias related to patient care. Students will gain insights about the challenges of treatment for individuals in the healthcare system. The spectrum of patients would include acute and chronic illness as well as physical and mental illnesses.  Prerequisites: Students who completed at least once of the foundational requirements of the HMS minor.
