MAT 421 Numerical Linear Algebra

The ideas of linear algebra form the foundation of many numerical methods in diverse fields of study.  Understanding how to turn these theoretical ideas into numerical algorithms and understanding when these methods converge and how much error is involved in the approximation is the focus of this course.  Topics may include: matrix factorization, singular value decomposition, conditioning, stability, preconditioning, eigenvalues, least squares, and optimization problems.
