PHI 248 Latin American Thought and Philosophy - El Salvador
This course provides an introduction on the history and culture of El Salvador and its people through the lens of Philosophy. We will directly engage with philosophies and theologies of liberation as applied specifically to the Civil War in El Salvador and its aftermath. We will be living in at least one community, staying with families, learning and working alongside them. We will look at the dynamics of the Civil War itself, examining its aftermath and how Salvadorans continue to stand against socio-economic systems of oppression that have been upheld with the continuing help of United States’ economic and political practices.
Philosophically, we will use analyses of oppression, epistemologies of resistance, and identity formation as we study the revolutionary struggle in El Salvador and the re-establishing of communities after the war.
