PHY 340 Advanced Mechanics

Advanced Mechanics greatly expands the range of application of Newton’s fundamental laws and reformulates them using the elegant Hamiltonian and Lagrangian descriptions. The course provides a modern treatment of rigid-body motion, oscillating systems, continuum mechanics, nonlinear dynamics and chaos. The laboratory section emphasizes computer modeling techniques that complement traditional analytic problem solving methods.
