REL 225 Religion and Money
This course explores a myriad of intersectional issues that emerge from various perspectives and dynamics from the relationship between religion and money. What are the perspectives of money in various religious traditions and how does money influence religion? Does religion influence money and the economy? Is there a religion of money? Are there parallel properties of religion and money? The course will explore these questions through various historical, anthropological, psychological, and sociological perspectives. Not only will students engage classical and contemporary theoretical discussions and debates about religion, money, and the economy, but students will also engage with moral perspectives from various religious traditions and a range of studies from social scientific disciplines on money and the morality of exchange.
