Password Policy

Centre College uses a Single Sign On (SSO) system with Multifactor Authentication (MFA) to access campus resources.  Users will self-register when they receive notice of their accounts and this will include setting up validation questions and either a secondary email or phone number.  Multifactor Authentication will be used when you are accessing protected systems from an off-campus network or resetting your password.

To ensure the security of all accounts on campus, the College requires users to change their passwords every 180 days. New passwords must be 8 characters long, cannot match the previous six passwords and cannot contain your name or username. Users receive e-mail reminders that a password is about to expire beginning 14 days prior to expiration. A password, which remains unchanged for the full 180 days, will expire and require the user to reset it before the user can login. You can find directions for changing/resetting your password online by going to http://helpdesk.centre.edu to access the "View our Online Knowledge Base" menu, and then clicking on the "Password" section.

ITS recommends passwords be longer than 8 characters and contain a mixture of letters (upper and lower case), numbers, and symbols ($, @, *, etc.). For more security, consider creating a passphrase, or short sentence, as opposed to a password.
