President of the College Welcome

Dear Students:

Welcome to the 2024-25 academic year! I am thrilled to see both new and returning faces as we embark on another year of learning, growth, and community building here at Centre College.

At Centre, we pride ourselves on our commitment to the liberal arts—a tradition that encourages critical thinking, creativity, and a passion for lifelong learning. The liberal arts and sciences education you receive here is designed not only to prepare you for a successful career but also to foster well-rounded, thoughtful, and engaged citizens.

Centre’s general education curriculum is at the heart of what we do. It provides a broad and inclusive foundation of knowledge across the humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and arts. Our curriculum is designed by Centre’s faculty to cultivate intellectual curiosity, ethical reasoning, and a deeper understanding of the complex world we live in. By engaging in this rich and varied academic experience, you will develop the critical thinking skills and cultural awareness necessary to navigate and contribute to an ever-changing global society.

This student handbook serves as a comprehensive guide to the policies that underpin our vibrant and diverse educational community. These policies are more than mere rules; they represent a social contract that binds us together in mutual respect and shared responsibility. By following these guidelines, we each commit to valuing one another, offering kindness, dignity, and respect to our peers, and working collaboratively to create an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.

I look forward to the unique contributions each of you will make this year. Together, let's make this an extraordinary year of discovery and growth.

Sincerely,

Milton Moreland
President
