Student Government Association President Welcome

Dear Centre,

Please allow me to welcome you to the 2024-25 academic year. I am so happy you are here. I can’t wait for us to get started.

As a higher education institution and community, we are here to learn and grow together. While this means an emphasis on academic pursuits, I, like so many of you, gain an equal measure of fulfillment from the extracurricular sphere at Centre. Our artists, athletes, club members, student workers, greek-affiliated students and everyone in and between make priceless contributions to our learning community. Truly, the classroom goes way beyond any desk or lecture hall.

My last three years at Centre have taught me how to be a student but have also taught me how to be a student, a friend, and, crucially, a member of a community. Nothing and no one goes alone. In the face of upheavals politically, environmentally, and existentially in this nation and across the globe— it has never been more important to understand the importance of togetherness.

As president of our student government association (SGA), I pledge to place the good of the Centre community at the heart of what SGA does. As members of that community, I ask that you pledge to keep SGA accountable to this promise. Engage, reach out, demand, and advocate for the issues and concerns that matter to you. Our community is so much better with you and your perspective in it.

I call on us to lean into this year with gratitude for the incredible opportunity it is to be able to learn and grow here at Centre together. Thank your peers, your professors, and those countless others around you that make Centre possible. And then, thank yourself, for the hard work you’ve put in and the efforts yet to come. Centre, I know we have so much to give to each other.

Welcome back! Here’s to another year of excellence and kindness.

Thank you so much,

Kasey Montgomery

SGA President
