BIO 210 Introduction to Genetics

A survey of the basic principles of genetics. In this course, students will be introduced to the cellular mechanisms of inheritance and information flow, including mitosis, meiosis, replication, transcription, and translation, as well as Mendelian and non-Mendelian patterns of inheritance. In lab, students will design and carry out genetic crosses to determine experimentally if traits are following patterns of Mendelian or non-Mendalian inheritance. Finally students will by introduced to recombinant DNA technology and its applications to cloning, sequencing, and genetic engineering.
