ENG 374 Unmaking Asian America

The course “Unmaking Asian America—Literature and Cinema of Genocide” visits three genocidal sites in Asia—Sri Lanka, Kashmir, and Cambodia—through imaginative maps provided by diasporic writers, filmmakers, and musicians. It examines the intersections of European colonialism and US imperialism, aberrations of new nation formations, and the use of literature and cinema both as an antidote to state terrorism and a means to imagine alternative futures in Asian America and the postcolonial homelands.
