FYS 161 How to Buy an Election: Corruption and other Pathologies of Democracy

Democracy does not always work as the great thinkers intended. Policy plans and rational debate decide far fewer elections than one might think. Many elections are in fact decided by who can more efficiently leverage favors and buy off the right people. The United States, historically, has been far from immune to this type of politics as well. In short, this course will take you deep into the underbelly of democracy.
