Engineering
Division of Science and Mathematics
The mission of the Centre College engineering program is to cultivate lifelong learners in an inclusive learning environment, who integrate the broad perspectives of a liberal arts education with rigorous engineering principles and become leaders, contributing meaningfully to society and their profession.
The engineering program offers two majors: Engineering and Engineering Studies.
The Engineering major is a general, interdisciplinary program designed to develop engineers with both a broad knowledge of the field and core competencies needed for leadership in the workplace. Graduates of the Engineering major will be well prepared for careers in engineering or for graduate study in engineering or related fields.
Centre plans to seek ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accreditation through the EAC (Engineering Accreditation Commission) under the General Criteria for Engineering Programs.
The Engineering Studies major allows students with interests in fields closely related to engineering, such as architecture or environmental studies, to combine core engineering courses with coursework in another discipline.

Recommended First-Year/Sophomore Preparation
Students with an interest in engineering are strongly encouraged to discuss their first term schedule with an engineering faculty member before registering for classes.
Students considering the Engineering major should plan to complete MAT 165, MAT 185, PHY 210, and EGR 110 during their first year.
EGR 215 and EGR 210 may be taken in either the first-year or sophomore year.
MAT 235, MAT 360, PHY 230 and EGR 220 should be completed in the sophomore year.
Students may also choose to take CHE 131, EGR 330, and an engineering elective during the sophomore year.
Students considering the Engineering Studies major are encouraged to meet with an engineering faculty member in their first semester to discuss their interests and to plan a course of study that best supports their goals.
