Emergency exit doors are provided solely to allow for the safe and rapid evacuation of a building during emergencies, such as fires, severe weather, or other situations requiring immediate evacuation. These exits are strategically located to ensure occupants can leave the building quickly and safely when necessary.
Emergency exit doors are not intended for routine entry or exit from the residence hall. To maintain building security and ensure emergency exits remain available when needed, these doors are equipped with alarm systems. Opening an emergency exit door when there is no emergency will activate an audible alarm that alerts students and college personnel.
The misuse of emergency exit doors compromises the safety and security of the residential community and may result in disciplinary action, as well as financial responsibility for any costs associated with responding to or resetting the alarm. Students should use designated building entrances and exits for everyday access and reserve emergency exits for emergency situations only."
