I. Policy Prohibiting Discrimination

As a fundamental policy and in compliance with all applicable non-discrimination laws, Centre College does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, age, disability, veteran's status, or genetic information in the administration of any of its educational programs and activities, admissions, and with regard to employment. Centre College hires and promotes its employees and admits its students on the basis of merit, qualification, and character. This policy also prohibits discrimination based on the perception that an individual has one or more of the foregoing protected characteristics or an individual’s association with a person or group with one or more actual or perceived protected characteristics.

All employment decisions, including, but not limited to, hiring, retention, assignment, transfer, evaluation, dismissal, compensation, and advancement for all positions shall be based on job-related criteria and respond to Centre College’s needs.

Additionally, Centre College will comply with the accessibility requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Centre College will respond to and resolve prohibited discrimination complaints regarding accessibility as complaints of discrimination on the basis of disability.

Except as necessary for compliance with Federal and State law, prohibited discriminatory actions include:

  1. Treating one person differently from another in determining whether such person satisfies any requirement or condition for the provision of such aid, benefit, or service; 
  2. Providing different aid, benefits, or services or provide aid, benefits, or services in a different manner;
  3. Denying any person any such aid, benefit, or service;
  4. Subjecting any person to separate or different rules of behavior, sanctions, or other treatment;
  5. Aiding or perpetuating discrimination against any person by providing significant assistance to any agency, organization, or person which discriminates on the basis of protected status in providing any aid, benefit or service to students or employees;
  6. Otherwise limiting any person in the enjoyment of any right, privilege, advantage, or opportunity.
