CHN 430 Advanced Business & Professional Chinese I

This advanced, project-based course is cross-listed with CHN 330 but is designed for heritage learners and students returning from study abroad whose Chinese proficiency exceeds the intermediate level. Building on foundational professional communication skills, the course emphasizes nuanced, context-appropriate use of Chinese in diverse professional settings. Students will refine their ability to produce sophisticated written and spoken materials, including résumés, cover letters, professional emails, and oral presentations such as elevator pitches and self-introductions.

Compared to CHN 330, students enrolled in CHN 430 will complete individualized, research-driven projects tailored to their academic or career interests (e.g., industry-specific communication, professional portfolios, or case analyses). The course also explores cultural expectations, discourse strategies, and workplace practices across Chinese-speaking business environments.

Target proficiency: Advanced Low to Advanced Mid.
