CHN 440 Advanced Chinese-IV
The fourth segment in the Advanced Chinese series aims to help students develop advanced Chinese language skills, with an emphasis on literary, visual culture, and/or cinematic analysis in preparation for graduate work in Chinese studies. Students will increase their reading and translation proficiency by analyzing modern and premodern texts and films. Students will engage in meaningful oral communications by discussing relationships between history, politics, culture, and aesthetics. They will gain experience in producing increasingly sophisticated language: written and oral narration, historical summaries, and literary analysis. Students will conduct independent research on a topic of their choice.

CHN 320 or 340 or placement.
